Richter Scale Productions Launches High
Definition Video Department
Denver, August 13, 2007
--
Richter Scale Productions announces the
creation of a full service video
production division featuring a complete
complement of high definition (HD) video
production, editing and presentation
equipment.
Heading up the new division is
television and video production veteran
Jeff Mattoon, former owner and operator
of a Branson, Missouri based full
service production, post and mobile
facility.
“When
presented with the opportunity to work
with Richter Scale, the equipment list
for the new division was certainly a
deciding factor. It was blatantly
obvious to me that Harold Richter had
made a total commitment to High
Definition production. This bodes quite
well for Richter Scale clients,” offers
Mattoon.
The
vanguards of Richter’s HD equipment list
are Sony XDCAM HD digital cameras. XDCAM
HD cameras offer unsurpassed high
definition picture quality at an
affordable rate for clients.
Additionally, these cameras carry Sony’s
CineAlta designation, meaning they are
capable of shooting in 24p mode,
offering clients true film-style
productions. This is critical for
clients who must intercut locally
produced scenes with nationally produced
programs or commercials shot either in
HD or on 35mm film.
In
addition to multi-camera event, or I-Mag
(image magnification) production, for
the first time, Richter Scale
Productions can now offer its clients
full pre-event production and editing
services (post-production).
“One
of the most frustrating things to me was
to have a client who needed some sort of
video production and editing work done
before the live event. We just didn’t
have the wherewithal to get it done
effectively and affordably. That’s all
changed now and I’m very excited for our
existing clients as well as those in our
future,” states Harold Richter,
President and CEO of the company.
Richter Scale Productions has also made
a significant purchase of Barco digital
HD live event switching and projection
equipment. The CLM R10+ HD video
projectors offer incredible clarity and
brightness. The new-technology 10,000
lumen projectors wow nearly all who see
their images.
Should a client require it, the entire
signal path from the camera to the
projector is high definition. Something,
Richter points out, many clients think
they are getting from other vendors.
However, when the actual signal path is
scrutinized, what is projected is
actually standard definition. Richter
assures his clients they will know
exactly what they are getting.
“With our new equipment, the client may
choose either standard definition or
high definition. Regardless, the image
quality is stunning, and I have a
feeling that when people begin to see
the HD images, even thought they pay a
little more, they’ll want nothing less –
it’s that good,” says Richter.
Great
equipment means nothing without people
to put the pieces together in an
efficient and impactful manner. Jeff
Mattoon brings over 20 years’ experience
in television and video production, both
technical and creative.
As a
producer, writer and director, Mattoon
has produced numerous nationally
syndicated and distributed television
programs and long-form infomercials. He
is as comfortable creating hour-long
entertainment programs as he is
corporate video presentations. He
understands branding and the myriad
issues associated with promoting
specific companies and their products.
Mattoon is a self-avowed “freak of
nature” as it relates to the technical
side of production.
“Very
few people in our industry can write an
effective or entertaining script and
wire the back of an equipment rack –
I’ve just been blessed with that
ability. I guess my left and right brain
halves need constant workouts,” jokes
Mattoon.
Richter Scale Productions is anxious to
put Mr. Mattoon’s skills and its new
equipment to work for its clients.
Offering high definition production and
high impact creative is sure to greatly
benefit all existing and new clients.

Richter Scale
Productions Named
Regional Sound Company of the Year
At
2005 Parnelli
Awards
Long
Beach, CA.
The 2005 Pro Production Live Event
Market Place and Trade Show held its
fourth annual
Parnelli Awards Ceremony on
February 25th at the
Queen Mary Grand Ballroom in Long
Beach, California to a full house of
industry professionals. Richter
Scale Productions, Inc. was honored
with the prestigious award of
“Regional Sound Company of the Year”.
Harold Richter, founder and
president of Richter
Scale,
proudly accepted the award, thanking
Terry Lowe, Executive Director of
Pro Production 2005, and the Richter
Scale team for making it all
possible.
According to
Terry Lowe, the
Parnelli Awards are the live
event industry’s highest honor,
recognizing pioneering and
influential individuals and their
contributions to the live event
field. The
Parnelli Awards salute both
companies and individuals, honoring
all those who epitomize the four
H’s that
Parnelli
stands for: “Humanity, Humility,
Honesty and Humor.”
The nomination
process began last year, with FOH
Magazine’s second annual FOH
Hometown Heroes Regional Sound
Company Awards, designed to honor
the live event audio foot soldiers.
FOH created five regions in
the country, with five nominees in
each region, and then asked its
readers to vote for their choice of
Hometown Hero Regional Sound
Company. The five winners in each
of the five regions were then
nominated to receive the Regional
Sound Company of the Year award at
the Parnelli’s.
Industry professionals from around
the country voted for the winners of
this esteemed award. And the winner
of the Regional Sound Company of
the Year is…drum roll…Denver’s
own RICHTER SCALE PRODUCTIONS.
Richter Scale Productions Goes to
Washington
Washington,
D.C., January 19 – 20, 2005. It was
an honor of a lifetime for Denver based
Richter Scale Productions to travel to
Washington, D.C. to provide production
services for the Freedom Ball at Union
Station, one of nine Balls held on
January 20, 2005 in honor of President
George W. Bush’s Inauguration. In
addition to the Freedom Ball, Richter
Scale provided production services for
the Candlelight Dinner in Union Station
as well as for the Wyoming State Society
Ball at Constitution Hall the night
before the Inaugural, on January 19,
2005.
The Inaugural Ball
at Union Station, which was sponsored by
the state organizations from Alaska,
Alabama, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana and
Michigan, hosted 5,500 celebrants in a
beautifully lit hall. Richter Scale
Productions was tasked with providing
the sound reinforcement and lighting
design for four stages for the varied
entertainment presented over the course
of the evening, in addition to the
lighting for the interior and exterior
of the building. Music ranged from jazz
to big band to hits of the 70’s, 80’s
and 90’s. The US Navy Band played the
National Anthem on the Presidential
Stage to kick off the festivities, and
then later played “Hail to the Chief” to
introduce President Bush.
The visual impact
of the décor lighting in Union Station
was apparent not only to the party-goers
but also to a nationwide audience as CNN
based its broadcast headquarters there,
covering all of the Inaugural
festivities from the Freedom Ball.
Several commentators and assembled
senators and congressmen commented that
they had never seen Union Station look
so magnificent.
Richter Scale
Productions found itself on a short list
of preferred vendors for the White House
after producing ten Presidential
Campaign events prior to the election.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee
selected only three companies to produce
the Inaugural Balls this year. For the
Candlelight Dinner at Union Station the
night before the Inaugural Ball, Richter
Scale was asked to create an intimate,
elegant theme for 2,000 people in amber
hues and then transforming the venue
into a vibrant, patriotic and
ever-changing palate of colors for the
Freedom Ball.
MPI
REASSEMBLES WINNING
TEAM
IN SAN DIEGO
San Diego,
CA, January 23-25, 2005. The
site for the Meeting Professionals
International (MPI) annual winter
Professional Education Conference –
North America (PEC-NA) was the San
Diego Convention Center this year.
With a record breaking attendance of
over 2,700 for the conference, MPI
drew meeting planners from 14
countries and attracted
approximately 350 exhibitors to the
trade show portion of the
conference.
"Every
organization benefits from the
rising tide of the economy," said
2004-2005 MPI Chairman of the Board
Hugh K. Lee. Lee credits the
fruition of several multi-year
initiatives sponsored by MPI and a
high member retention rate -
approaching 75 percent - as reasons
for the increased attendance.
New
technology is the mantra of MPI
congresses, and this PEC was no
exception. MPI partnered Fusion
Productions out of New York with
Denver-based Richter Scale
Productions for a second consecutive
collaborative production effort.
Together they assembled some of the
latest, state-of-the-art technology
to create a mystical, “Under the
Sea” ambience for a packed General
Session.
In keeping
with this theme, the creative team
of Richter Scale Productions and
Fusion opted to create the illusion
of transporting the attendees from
the floor of the convention center
to the bottom of the ocean. This
effect was accomplished by crafting
an underwater tunnel using three
dimensional fabric sculptures
provided by Tranformits Rhythms
Collection. The roof of the tunnel
was painted with continuous looping
movies of sharks and other aquatic
life, using 4 small video
projectors. All video content was
kept in native resolution, making
the graphics really pop. Martin MAC
250 Entours lighting fixtures were
used to light the sides of the
tunnel. The effect of water movement
was produced by using dual gobos in
the fixtures.
